Almost 1 year later and still going strong. One might think this calls for a sticky.

EDIT: if anyone still wants mending, get a Resto rit into your group.

See this is why you want to “shit” them first before:

Any W/Mo rush into swamp of mods (With Charge!),

Or an Ele try to do close range nuke in the fire island (With Fire Skills)

Or a Ranger try to pock his mod with his/her arrow. (With a Longbow)

…etc

Err not if you have a good team... Our guild takes only one monk in there for healing and we typically do fine.... Unless our guildie who we call God Of Agro is with us or more random PUGs than usual, then it might get complicated... However when it comes time for our monk to scat cause we were stupid, we know better than to get heals and we WILL yell at him if he comes back to throw one off instead of running... a lone ranger = tank?... I think not!

It just depends on your group... Took a "healing" monk into FoW (2heal and 1bond in case a monk Disconnected ya know..) and the other monk watched as our monk did very very very little to no healing... We decided not to be rude since she was obviously a little new to it, but we were greatly saddened by it, especially our other heal monk lol.

In the end it all depends on your monks and your groups.... The whole thing goes both ways.

WTB Good team.

I mean, hell yeah, tell me how to determine how good a group is in PuGs BEFORE you enter the mission?

(Responding to Kali) BR gives an additional 3 regen for up to 14 seconds. Even assuming that it only lasts 10 secs, your right, its only going to provide 10 nrg. However, have you ever worked out what things like OOB and Mantra of Recall are in nrg regen figures. Mantra of recall is about 23 nrg every 20 secs, which more or less equates to 3 extra regen. So, basically a blood rit can be almost as effective as Mantra of Recall. In addition energy burn and surge steal the same amount of energy as blood rit provides, and these things can often destroy monks. From my experience of monking in gvg a blood rit at a good moment has kept not only the necro healed (and you shoudlnt be healing sacrifices on a necro, its called overhealing) but also the rest of the team. 10 energy may not seem like a lot, but in healing terms thats about 200 health in RoFs and Divine Boon.

I actually did that stuff =D

You see, all those people here are always talking about monk abuse, wammo abuse, something abuse.
They're frustrated!

They go into a mission hoping to complete it, not with masters or bonus, just hoping to complete it. Then they get abused and fail and they get sad, then they come here.

What they could do instead is... hench it!
It is possible to hench 100% of factions (excluding elite missions but those are an extra) or they could get themselves a guild or expand their friendslist.

Still there's hundreds of morons out there. The beauty of it all? They're EVERYWHERE

There's so many, you can't beat them, so why not join them?

I've been accepting blind invites to see what woul d happen. Doing Arborstone for no reason, just like I once did THK for no reason.

Did it 7 times yesterday.

One guy kept calling every single skill he used, then he started asking about the cool helmet one of the partymembers had. Then he was told that he could get it in Cavalon. So now he spends the entire mission spamming "someone lead me to cavalon!", "someone lead me to cavalon!"

Or Tahnnakai, which I did for an elite. I accepted a blind invite from a party with 2 assassins, hoping they'd be good assassins (they seem to team up).
We had 2 assassins, 2 necros, 1 monk (me), an ele and som e warriors.
They ALL acted like their own stereotypes.

The warriors ran close to a mob, then "pulled" them back into the casters. But that wasn't a problem since the ele was tanking anyway, getting killed in less than a second (the time it takes for a pure healing monk to fire off a healingspell.. i know, i know, halved casting times etc is nice but when they die in 2 frames....)
Then the ele is asking for rezzes etc..
The 2 necros? Neither of them were MM, neither of them were SS. You'd think they'd at least use some cookiecutter build but no.. They just stood there, wanding stuff to death, never ever using any skill at all.

The assassins? A/Mo using orison of healing on themselves... I don't know how many points they had in healing but orison healed them for like 1%.

It was so incredibly funny, I almost fell off my chair.
I was absolutely certain that this was fake, a set-up. Some kind of hidden camera things and that I would be in a movie or something.

I'm one of those weird people who help others.. but I noticed that my friendslist consists purely out of people I had helped before. There are zero people in there who helped me (apart from guildies and some others). A lot of the people in the list are constantly asking me for stuff too.

Mankind has degenerated into a big pile of poo. Why not sit there and laugh hysterically as the poo destroys itself?

Sad to say, but I agree with this post.

Henchies are so much smarter...I think that if ANET were to fix the henches, then PUGs are out of business.

My main character is a monk. I typically run a dual heal/protect monk (I find protection spells conserve energy by spreading it over a long course of time compared to healing spike damage at once--especially with these dang Afflicted going and spattering their corpses everywhere when they die). I've seen good groups, and bad groups. The above posters have it right--Monks and Warriors (and now Assassins...REAL easy to tell when they aren't that talented) are very visible professions, and thus will get the majority of the attention, whether good or bad.

A few people have stated that monks generally are elitist. Well, this can be very true. A lot of people don't play monks. It's very demanding at times, and personally, I take the failures rather hardly. If I'm already beating myself up for my mistakes, you don't need to point them out to me. Doing so will only make me angry--not necessarily at you, but at myself. At least if someone else makes a mistake, they can keep it private. However, me casting Heal Other/Jamei's Gaze on the 100% HP player above the 10% HP player is rather obvious. I'm not trying to make excuses for "snobby" monks. I do my best to be as tolerant as possible. When someone runs off, alone, half a map away and dies, then screams, "rez me! st00pid m0nk!", I find my patience runs thin.

Either way, it's a cyclic situation. Monks stop playing as monks because they don't like the abuse, and thus the up-and-coming monks realize they are in high demand, which fosters the elitism, which causes the rest of the players to beat on us, whether we be good or bad.

Change starts with you. Only you can prevent forest fir-err, Monk-basing and elitism! :P

Ill only respect monks when they are doing their job and not being asshats.

I was doing RoF tonight on my monk, and there were 2 other monks in the party. one of the monks get a good weapon and one of the players asked if they could have it. So the monk starts screaming about how the person is trying to scam her.

the 2 monks I’m guessing were together ( though neither of them even had a guild) the monk that was yelling asks me to back her up cause monks need to stick together. I simply said I didn’t want to get into an argument, so both monks said I was a backstabber and that I was also a P***y for not joining in the monk strike months earlier, then they proceeded to try and make me look bad, which sort of worked, one of the wammos fell for it.

On top of that, I was pretty much the only one healing, and the other 2 monks kept dieing.

WHERE DO THESE PEOPLE COME FROM!!! I want so badly to post their names so nobody has to go through playing with them.

What I want is for anet to buff not only rits healing skills, but each classes self healing, not by a lot, but just enough so rits can be used more, and all the ass monks will have to be nice if they want to get a party.

this is a problem in lots of online RPG's all the healing is basically on one class, and a good amount of people in that class are just plan jerks and think they are most important, and then at some points they charge money for having them in your party. I’ve already seen this happen in guild wars and its just lame. lots of good monks, but way more ones that just do it to take advantage.

After taking my monk through every mission in both Tyria and Cantha, I honestly can't remember a single complaint about my healing (and I'm nothing special). Maybe I just happen to join good pugs, but from what I've seen, the situation isn't bad as a whole: there are just certain people who force rare occassions of rudeness. And put bluntly, it's the stupid people who criticize the monks. It's the people who overextend, split up, don't watch the party window... The only time I remember being criticized was in RA, I was on a boon prot. Normally, I get complimented for monking in RA, but this time, I just so happened to run into a very high damage group and was immediately crowded by 2 assassins. While I was kiting to keep myself alive, the mesmer on my team ran very far forward (out my healing range) and died. Then he typed in team chat something like "what a sorry excuse for a monk" and ragequit. Pissed me off :-P

Its sort of like the difference between pugs in HA as you go up the ranks. r3+ groups often include many bossy people who really don't know what they're doing and they criticize others more than they look at their own flaws. r6+ groups always seem to be more -calm- with a definite leader and suggestions are welcome (whereas I always seem to look stupid if I make a suggestion on what to do in a r3+ group).

Its funny because, i see monks here complaining about mending warriors and rambos, these people are CONVINCED they are an asset to the team and the world revoles around them.
They complain when the team wipes and blames everyone but them selves, yet you look and see these HORRIBLE monks running gimped bars, and you wonder hmmm whos fault was it really?

i henched most of the game with my monk because i CANT STAND most of the HORRIBLE players in pve, but for those odd times where i would have to group up , and we pick up that Mo/R with a pet or the Mo/Rt who thinks he is a good healer, i just LAUGH and leave.

and by the way its easy to tell someones skill pregame
theres alot of checks in place

see the warrior with full knights or dragon? - Bad warrior
see the monk in tats ? -Bad Monk
see anyone with a ridiculous name (dark pwn knight etc.) - bad player
people have riduculous secondaries (Mo/r , W/Rt, A/X, etc) - bad player
common sense > all

if you take the time to evaluate your group before going in, you can guarentee your group wont be a failure.

i got my protector of cantha and tyria easily by not playing with bad players.

That is completely false, I've goten masters on three of the Mainland missions in groups that have no monk primaries as well as beaten the Ring of Fire Mission and Bonus with a group of all Warriors, only 4 were W/Mo, and me as a Barrage/Pet Ranger. It is completely possible with good players, but the problem is there just aren't that many good players. But instead of doing anything to help new players learn to play better, everyone just complains about it.

I have PUG'ed Prophecies on 7 or 8 charas, and now Factions with 2 charas completely, and 4 charas up to HzH/Cavalon (just whacking around Aspenwood, rest of the storyline and the missions are boring, useless, etc)..

And I haven't met these horror groups of noobish doom. I assume you play on the American server, so is the playerbase more clueless over there? The Euro server atleast seems to work fine and dandy for me, most of the PUGs succeed, there aren't those stereotypical noobs that much (except few 'tanks' that use Frenzy. Oh boy that guy dropped like a stone many, many times in Abaddon's Mouth. He didn't even stop using it after I tried to tell him that it effectively halved his HPs.)

And I kinda have done some of the missions again to see some of these oddballs, but without much success, so I have really hard time believing that "all players that play on pugs are total noobs and poo", when I haven't seen that many of them, I'd give the groups I've played with some 10-25% 'noobyness' amount, while the rest of the group tended to know what they were doing (there has been some utter failures, but most of the time it has been a very smooth ride).

It seems like people often forget that if your group decides not to work together it will fail. There is nothing new and suprising about that. Yet it seems that so many people ARE suprised by it.

I have noticed that there are only 3 kinds of people that tend to abuse monks. These people abuse everyone though. Impatient people. Jerky people. Lazy people. At least one of these is pretty easy to spot right off. They tend to spam "gogogogo" while still in town. The lazy people are unfortunately hard to spot unless they go afk while in town and don't say anything to repeated queries. Jerks tend to hold it in till things get tough. These people act the same to ALL classes.

I don't see what gives monks license to call weave with sob stories(please note the sarcasm of this last sentence). The scapegoat is the most obvious one, these days it's not even the monk. I have seen a whole lot of assassin abuse. I don't even have an assassin and I am thoroughly appauled at how most of them are treated. What about the wammos too? Everyone still talks all kind of crap about wammos.

All of the classes take it in one way or another. I don't think that anyone should be saying they have it any worse than any other profession. Monks can at least find a group when ever they want.

To the OP, i am sorry you feel the way you did and it happens to most monks in high end PvE areas.

This is the reason why i dont monk for PuGs any more except for the guild.

This trend is likely to continue up to the point where players without a guild will find themselves stuck on maps like THK in GWP or temple, arbostone(Kur), unwaking waters(kuz) in GWF for months on ends until they decide to join a guild to help them or quit the game altogether or learn to keep their trap shut when they die and not spam for rez/abuse the monk in a PuG.

Same goes for Farming maps like Tombs and one monk is sufficient if the MM knows what hes doing and the B/Ps dont stand around in the AoE and actually interupt it.

/end rant

I'm sorry to write this, but I've met some quite funny monks lately:
1. Me and some members of my alliance decided to do Arborstone, we decided to try PuG, one monk was from our alliance and one of the best in it. The other one we can call "G". We started the mission and after a while I noticed that we didn't get much heal and the only one who seemed to be healing was the alliance monk. I looked at G and what was he doing? Well, spamming flare and heal party. Was a good laugh, we made it anyway till the end.

2. Yesterday me and a guildie decided to rush through most of the missions or at least till HzH, so after a couple of hours playing we reached Boreas. We put a PuG together and all seemed well, most seemed to know what they were doing until again I noticed we only got heal from one monk. I looked at the other monk and all he was doing ws using healing breeze and Balthazar's Aura, but that's not the worst. He then decided to aggro everything on map even though we were drawing like mad men on the map to tell him to stop and shouting in chat. We made it in the end and got Masters (d'uh).

Please, if you use some wacky build with hardly any heal or protection, please tell before so that we can get another healer/prot aswell.

Ronso
